Dr. Richard P. Brown, MD
& Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, MD

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Balance your stress response system for stress resilience and energy renewal
  • Release tension, dispel anxiety, sleep soundly, and quiet your mind
  • Increase your lung capacity, oxygenation, and cardio-respiratory health
  • Improve recovery from negative life experiences or trauma
  • Feel more connected to your inner self and to others
  • Improve your relationships and empathic abilities

Based on his extensive research and experience with clients, Dr. Brown has combined highly effective techniques to relieve stress, improve mood, mental focus, heart and lung function, and endurance. Many people who have worked with him say they have been transformed and that they never would have imagined that something so simple would have been so powerful and helpful.

Theses benefits have been enjoyed by health care practitioners, Buddhist monks and nuns, teachers of yoga and other mind-body practices, military veterans, individuals with psychiatric (eg. anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD) and medical conditions (eg. cancer, Lyme disease, lung problems, toxic exposures), victims of terrorism, war and natural disasters. We will be sharing new material on the science of breath and its use in trauma relief.

* For those who have taken this class before, we have added more advanced practices including modifications of breath moving, breath rhythms, and open focus meditation.

Richard P. Brown, MD, Associate Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, teaches advanced breath techniques with movement and meditation to help stressed and traumatized people improve energy, sleep quality, stress resilience, and peace of mind. His work is a unique fusion of ancient and modern mind-body techniques derived from QiGong, yoga, Christian monks, Coherent Breathing, Open Focus meditation, and martial arts.

Patricia Gerbarg, MD, Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College, facilitates research projects, lectures, and writes about the effects of breath techniques on psychological health and post-traumatic stress. She assists Dr. Brown in workshops and is the co-author of How to Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care by RP Brown, PL Gerbarg, and PR Muskin (WW Norton, 2009).
