An Introduction to Medieval Natal Chart Analysis
Saturday morning
After several years of working with techniques of medieval natal
astrology, it is now becoming clear exactly how to organize the
examination of the natal chart and to reach conclusions regarding an
individual's health, earning capacity, career, relationships and all of
the other issues that modern astrologers want to look at. The medieval
approach is extremely systematic but not difficult to learn.
Participants will have hands-on experience with their own charts. All
participants should have a reasonable knowledge of basic modern natal
astrology.
Introduction to Electional Astrology
Saturday afternoon
This is the astrology of picking times to do things or to start
enterprises. While modern astrologers attempt to do this on a regular
basis, they do not in fact know the traditional methods that make it
relatively easy to do this. These are systematic methods that can give
even the relative beginner a leg up on doing "elections." While the
complete lore of elections is very complex, the basic principles are
not. In this workshop there will be time to go into special topics, and
the general methods for finding good times for doing particular things.
Traditional methods will be stressed throughout except where modern
astrology has something useful to add.
Astrology and Location
Sunday morning
This is an introduction to four techniques used to evaluate where one
might live for the best results from the natal chart. 1) Indications in
the natal chart concerning the kind of place one might want to live in,
and whether one should stay near one's birthplace or go far away. 2)
Astro-mapping which is placing one's chart on a map and seeing what
parts of the earth benefit oneself the most and in what way. 3)
Relocated charts, which are natal charts re-erected as if one lived in a
different place. 4) Local Space Charts which show directions in which
one might want to move for various purposes or which show how one can
arrange one's immediate environment.
Ancient Philosophy and Spirituality and Their Impact on Astrology
Sunday afternoon
This workshop will deal with the interaction of astrological ideas and
ancient philosophy and show how it affected them, drew upon them, and
became in fact completely integrated with them in a grand synthesis,
much of which extended into the Middle Ages. But as a result of the
later stages of this synthesis Astrology became a "science" in the
medieval sense of the world and in doing so lost something of its
mystical and spiritual foundation; it split in two, into "scientific"
and "magical" branches. In the latter was preserved the original
spiritual nature of astrology which can be used to build a new
philosophy of astrology so that once again astrology can be, as ancient
astrology was, thoroughly involved with, and rooted in, the philosophy
and religion of its day. Using those ancient philosophical principles
still found in modern Western philosophy and religion, I believe that we
can rebuild a proper foundation for astrology which will reach back to
its ancient roots with a new structure upon them, one that is neither
alien to the West, nor which turns astrology against its own inner
logic.
Robert Hand, began his work in astrology at the age of 17. Rob
learned the basics of casting charts for these applications from his
father, Wilfred Hand, who successfully applied the astrological
techniques of his day to forecasting the stock market. Rob is an honor
graduate from Brandeis University, with honors in history, and went on
for graduate work in the History of Science at Princeton. Rob began an
astrology practice in 1972 and as success came, he began traveling
worldwide as a full-time professional astrologer.
Robert Hand was known in his early career as the first practicing
astrologer to write astrology programs for microcomputers so that the
benefits of computers would be available to astrologers. From this
effort, he founded Astro-Graphics Services in 1979, which later became
Astrolabe, Inc.
In his professional practice Rob uses tropical, heliocentric,
sidereal, uranian, cosmobiological and in mundo techniques with ancient
and mediaeval methods now being uncovered and translated. In 1997 Rob
established a formal archive, library and publishing company for
continuing his lifelong work in the history and science of astrology ...
ARHAT.
Robert Hand's library now houses the original texts and translations
of over two dozen ancient and medieval astrologers. Books that he has
authored to date include: Planets in Transit: Life Cycles for Living,
Planets in Composite: Analyzing Human Relationships, Planets in Youth:
Patterns of Early Development, Essays on Astrology and Night and Day:
Planetary Sect in Astrology.
Robert Hand is a former chairman of the National Council for
Geocosmic Research. He is a member of AFAN, ISAR, and is a patron of the
Faculty of Astrological Studies. Rob lectures in conferences, seminars
and workshops worldwide. Robert Hand offers professional astrological
services to astrologers and the general public. He can be reached at
